HAPPINESS TAKES MANY FORMS
Congratulations to Alisaundra Carrasquillo, Emma Mungovan and Rosalyn Youssef!! These talented fourth grader writers recently had their work published in the Worcester Telegram's Happy Times pages!
by Alisaundra Carrasquillo
Animals are what make me happy. They are soft, fuzzy, cute, and cuddly in their own special ways. My favorite animal is a horse because it reminds me of a unicorn. Another favorite is the duck. It laws eggs and its cold blooded. The horse and duck are my favorite land and water animals, but they have lots of animal friends.
by Emma Mungovan
Smiles on faces
Under the sun
No more shoelaces
Sun is fun
Happy faces
Ice cream is done
No more races
Everyone is having fun!
by Rosalyn Youssef
Sunshine is so hot
Like a summer's sun
I always go to the beach
And it's so much fun
When I go to the beach
I like to tan
And I also like to play in the sand
SINGER INSPIRES YOUNG READER
NP fourth grade student Kathleen Murphy' s essay on her favorite singer was recently published in the Worcester Telegram's Happy Times pages. Congratulations Kathleen!!
Kathleen Murphy, Grade 4
Taylor Swift is my favorite singer for many reasons. First of all, I love her songs. My personal favorite song is "You Belong to Me". Secondly, she obviously has a good imagination because she writes her own songs. Thousands of Americans savor her songs and albums. Thirdly, she is in lots of movies, she was in the "Hannah Montana Movie", and she wrote a song just for the movie, it's called Crazier. In addition, Taylor Swift has really cool music videos. Finally, Taylor Swift won the Grammy Award in 2009, meaning she was the best female singer in the country. That is why Taylor Swift is my favorite singer.

GOOD NUTRITION
Congratulations to Alicyn Bratchell for having her winning essay published in the Worcester Telegram's Happy Times pages!!
Alicyn Bratchell
Grade 4
Have you ever heard why nutrition is important? I have. Nutrition gives your body a boost when you're sick or have a problem with your body. Nutrition is a good way to help you grow and get lots of vitamins, minerals and lots of calcium. Most of all nutrition can create energy and add a little fun to your body. Most people who eat healthy have a lot of energy and happiness put into their day. The more healthy food you eat the more energy you get. Nutrition is also helpful for thinking and focusing on everyday work and that's why nutrition is important to have!
FAVORITE WINTER SPORT
Tom Doherty submitted his essay on snowboarding to the Worcester Telegram's Happy Times pages and was chosen to have it published!! Congratulations Tom!
by Thomas Doherty, Grade 4
For many reasons, my favorite winter sport is snowboarding. You can choose to go to a regular snowboard place or go down your own hill and do your own stunts, this is called freestyle. Drifting is spectacular. Drifting is when you lean on a turn and pick up speed and sometimes try to drift. I practice snowboarding on my sled, sounds crazy, right? Actually it's very good practice, but sometime I topple over! I plan to get a snowboard in the future. That is why snowboarding is my favorite winter sport.
POEMS FOR A PURPOSE
Miss Quitadamo's class is putting poetry in motion and at the same time helping people in need. The classroom will be binding together a collection of original poems. We are inviting everyone connected to Nelson Place to submit an original poem. We encourage individual, class poems, family poems, and sibling poems. The only requirements are that the poems be original, labeled with all contributors' names, and submitted to Miss Quitadamo by March 5th, 2010.

HOBBY INSPIRES YOUNG WRITER
Congratulations to Christian Irene for sharing this interesting hobby and having it published in the Worcester Telegram's Happy Times Pages!
by Christian Irene, Grade 4
My preferred hobby is collecting rocks and minerals for my collection and I love the different types of minerals you find. Some of the rocks and minerals you can find are as tough as a nail and can withstand five hammer blows. Some of the other rocks and minerals would melt under pressure. It is also exciting to get another specimen for my bigger than life collection. I love to get other rocks and minerals because like a snowflake, not two of them, are shaped or look alike in any way. When you hold one up to the light it seems to shine like the mid-morning sun. That is why I like to collect rocks and minerals.
FUN AND NEW YEAR'S INSPIRE WRITERS
Congratulations to Nelson Place fourth grade students Hannah Foster and Thomas Doherty on getting their writings published in the Happy Times pages of the Worcester Telegram!
New Year's
by Hannah Foster
New Year's Eve is one of my favorite times of the year because I get to stay up really late; most of the time until midnight, maybe even later. I get to be with my family for the whole night, there is a lot to do like going out with my friends, going to parties, and all different and fun things like hearing the big bang at midnight. It is fun to wake up in the morning and say it's a new year. That is why I love New Year's Eve!

ASPIRING WRITERS DREAM OF TRAVELING
Congratulations to Eleni Vozikis and Thomas Doherty for getting their wonderful writings published in the Worcester Telegram Happy Times Pages!!
If I could travel to....
by Eleni Vozikis, Grade 4
If I could travel to California it would be awesome because California is very cool! California has palm trees, beaches and movie stars. It would be a good place to to Play Spy's. They have lots of carnivals and arcades but the best part is the hotels. They have indoor pools and the hotel owner throws a party every Saturday. The beach has waiters who serve food and drinks. They even have hot tubs at the beach.
Trips...
by
Thomas Doherty, Grade 4
A trip can be exciting and fun
You can say that it is number one
Boats, cars, and even trains
Go up, up and away with the planes
You will learn many new things
So go and see what your vacation brings!
MILTON HERSHEY INSPIRES YOUNG WRITER
NP fourth grader Ryan Buckley recently had an essay published in the Worcester Telegram's Happy Times Pages. Congratulations Ryan!
Famous person I would most like to meet
by Ryan Buckley
I wish I met Milton Hershey. He was the first to create Hershey chocolate, yum, my favorite. His father was a dreamer, and Milton ate sour balls as a boy. When he was an adult he had tickets on the Titanic. He was not able to go because his wife was very ill. Weeks later his wife died. He earned $6000 by selling his famous Hershey chocolate. Milton Hershey is my hero because with the money he earned he gave to children who needed a home.
