STAND FOR CHILDREN COMES TO WORCESTER
Stand for Children is a citizen voice for children. Our mission is to teach everyday people how to join together in an effective grassroots voice in order to win concrete, long-lasting improvements for children, at both state and local levels. Since 1999, Stand for Children members have won 88 state and local victories, achieving a number of important education reforms and leveraging more than $1.7 billion in public funding for programs that are improving the lives of more than 2.7 million children. Every dollar contributed to Stand for Children has delivered $115 in public funding for schools and other children's programs - a remarkable return on investment. The Worcester Chapter had a very successful kick off on January 10, 2008 with about 200 people including city and state leaders.
Stand for Children Nelson Place Team wants you to VOTE NO ON QUESTION 1
The Worcester Chapter of Stand for Children is working diligently to defeat Question 1. Times are tough enough and Question 1 will only make them worse. Question 1 is a ballot initiative that would completely eliminate the state income tax and cut 40% from the state budget (about $12 billion). It’s a reckless idea that we simply can’t afford now, at a time when the economy is in dire trouble. Not only would public education be at risk for severe cuts which will affect our children’s classroom, but we would face higher property taxes while many of our public services decrease -it would cripple our city. We can’t afford to be this reckless with our community and children’s future. Please join Stand for Children to help spread the word to vote No on Question 1, on Nov 4. To learn more about Question 1, please visit www.stand.org/ma/question1 or call team coordinators Deb Steigman 753-6419, or Maria Pickering 757-0040. Together we can, and we will make a difference!!!
2008-2009 KICKOFF
Please join us for the Stand for Children Nelson Place Team Meeting on Thursday, September 25th at 7pm (location to be determined). We will be discussing what we accomplished in the last year, and collecting input on what you would like Stand to work on for the 2008-2009 school year. We look forward to seeing you!
