How to Volunteer

PTO Meetings are 7:00 - 8:00 pm, check the calendar for meeting dates.

Join us for the first PTO meeting of the year, held in the cafeteria. It's a great opportunity to find out about what is going on at Nelson Place. Mrs. Poitras will give her report, then each of the committee chairs will report, briefly, about their committees and what they do and what they need in terms of help.

Many of the teachers will be there. You can sign-up (or not) to join one of the committees. Perhaps you would like to serve ice cream treats to the kids one Friday each month, or help in the library during your child's classroom visits. Even if your schedule doesn't permit volunteering at school, the PTO meeting is a great source of information. Come!

What Can Volunteers Do?
Almost anything - cutting out paper shapes for a classroom project, becoming a room parent to help with classroom events, baking for a bake sale or teacher appreciation event. If your schedule makes it difficult to visit during school hours, there are plenty of "after hours" projects. You can sign up to help on a number of committees at the first PTO meeting or by calling one of the PTO officers.

We welcome your input at a PTO meeting where a lot of our planning and decisions take place. PTO meetings are held the third Monday of every month throughout the school year unless otherwise noted. New faces are always welcome!

The Nelson Place School PTO is a 501c3 non profit organization. Tax deductable donations can be made to the general fund or for a specific purpose such as for library books or to sponsor an enrichment program at any time. Many companies have matching gift programs that match their employees contribution to qualified organizations too. Be sure to check with your employer. In addition, teachers usually have wishlists of items they could use in the classroom.... kleenex, water, snacks... check with your child's teacher if you are interested in helping with classroom items.

We look forward to working together with you to make our children's school an even better place to learn and grow.
