Hole In The Wall Gang Update: Late last June, five hospital Outreach Specialists visited and brought the spirit of the Camp to our school. Many of our students enjoyed playing ladder ball, writing mad-libs, and making bracelets. In return, our Nelson Place students were able to give these specialists 3 cartons of children's books, 3 cartons of arts and craft supplies, a $1,000 check generously donated by one of our families, and the $1,100 raised by our used book
sale! In the words of Karen Van Cleef: "Our Outreach Specialists have raving reviews of the Nelson Place students and school. As the person who unpacks and sorts generous donations like yours, I can confidently say the supplies and funds you raised will go to great use with the kids in the hospitals." It is indeed heartwarming to know that when one of our own students was recently a patient at Boston's Children Hospital, she was visited by the Outreach Specialist and had fun making projects with our donated supplies!
Miss Quitadamo was recently informed that 16 of her former students have been selected for publication in the Summer, 2011 edition of a "Celebration of Poets." Those very talented poets include Grace Andros, Aaron Berry, Jahcere Bradshaw, Sydney Connole, Ryan Connor, Abigail Evers, Natalie Harris, Caitriona Houston, Ryan Le, Daniel Lemieux, Jamie O'Donnell, Annyelle Pego, Isabelle Perez, Arthemis Shqina, Karlie Sunden, and Elizabeth Zementowski. Congratulations!
Congratulations to the following students for their
essays published in the Worcester Telegram's
Happy Times Pages!
Sydney LaFlash, Grade 4
If I could travel anywhere it would be New
Orleans. It is a very calm and quiet place. I love the
beautiful sounds and sunlight.
The craziest thing is the houses are 40 stories
high and almost every house smells like pumpkin
pie. I always see people going down to the old mill
stream to get a pail of water. I would miss my
home, pets and all my friends. I like to say everyone
needs an adventure.
Cody Sealey, Grade 4
If I could travel to Boston College’s arena I would
watch a hockey game. Then I would get some
buttery popcorn. Boston College is a great school.
Their arena name is Conte Forum. They have a
really good hockey team, right now they are number
one in the country. Their nickname is the Eagles.
Boston College’s colors are maroon and white.
Their arena is really clean. The school is in Boston.
The street name that it is on is Chestnut Hill.

Operation Turkey
We were wonderfully overwhelmed by the
generous donations of food and money to
Operation Turkey this year. It was a great
success! Thank you so much to all our students
and families for giving so much; your donations
will be so helpful and appreciated. A special thank
you goes out to our Nelson Place custodians, Mr.
Kevin and Mr. Joe, for collecting the donations
from around the building and having them together
in the library for us. We’d also especially like to
thank all the volunteers who helped us with
Operation Turkey this year, we couldn’t have done
it without you!

Hole In The Wall Gang Update
Please keep The Hole In The Wall Gang drop-off box
in mind when shopping during this holiday season.
Much needed items including ribbon, yarn, wrapping
paper, duct tape, glue sticks, markers, and crayons
often go on clearance at this time of year. With our
help, the Outreach Specialists can bring the playful
spirit of the camp to seriously-ill hospitalized children
all year long!
Be part of Karina’s Crew!
We have a brave first grader having some health
challenges right now. Consider purchasing a bracelet to
show her and her family the love and support of their
Nelson Place family. Bracelets are $2 each and all
proceeds go to the family to help with incidental expenses
traveling to and from appointments. They will be sold at
lunchtime on Monday, December 5th for those wishing to
purchase.
