The Fundraising Committee kicks off each year with a two-week fundraiser that provides income for most of our activities for the rest of the year. Each spring, the committee recommends a vendor such as Yankee Candle or Genevieve from which purchases are solicited in the coming school year. Catalogs and information are sent home with the children. Please think about relatives and co-workers who might want to buy wrapping paper, chocolates and other gift items to support the school. It’s a great opportunity to get a jump on holiday shopping and fund PTO programs for the year. Merchandise is usually delivered by late October.
Tax deductible donations made to the "Nelson Place PTO" are accepted any time.
What Does the Money Go To?
- Transportation for field trips
- Enrichment - cultural, scientific and historical performances at the school
- Family Nights - fun events for students and their families such as Pumpkin Night in the fall
- SPREE Day - a June day of rides, face painting, educational magic and more
- Hospitality - flowers and cards for staff and parents for various occasions
- Library - purchasing books in collaboration with the librarian
- School pride - plantings and general clean-ups
- Student reading programs
- And MORE!!

This is the one purchase that pays for itself and then some! Look for savings on movies, museums, zoos, sporting events, retail stores, restaurants, and more. Entertainment Books make a great gift! Books are $30* and order forms will be due by Sept 19 (see below).

By popular demand the Yankee Candle fundraiser is back!
Our biggest fundraiser of the year, the Yankee Candle fundraiser starts September 16, thru September 30. Products will be delivered to the school before the Thanksgiving break for pick up, so plenty of time before the Holidays
All proceeds will go in the PTO general fund which supports programs such as enrichment, field trips, and teacher/student supplies just to mention a few.
Catalogs and order forms will be coming home soon.

Tools for Schools at Price Chopper

Directions
1. Sign up for a Price Chopper AdvantEdge Card at any Price Chopper Store.
2. If you signed up for our school last year, you can verify at www.pricechopper.com, if you did not sign up last year, or if you are not sure, please register as soon as possible. Please have friends, relatives and neighbors sign up as well.
3. Go to www.pricechopper.com to register your card for our school.
4. If you do not have internet access, please obtain a form from the school.
5. After you register, when you shop at Price Chopper and use your AdvantEdge Card, our school will automatically receive credit.
6. When you purchase specially tagged bonus points items, our school earns extra points.

2010-2011 Fundraising Underway
As fall approaches, so does our fall fundraising programs.
Entertainment Book
This year we will continue with the sale of the Entertainment Books, a sample of which went home in backpacks the week of September 13th, 2010. Please review all of the money saving coupons inside before you purchase this copy, or order more for friends. Books are $25, and our PTO can make up to $12.50 for every book sold! Order forms will be due by Sept 17. This is the one purchase that pays for itself and then some! Look for savings on movies, museums, zoos, sporting events, retail stores, restaurants, and more. Entertainment Books make a great holiday gift. And, they can be ordered for most cities across the country (some prices may vary)... what a nice surprise for a friend or relative out of state!
Please Note: This is not a free book. If you are not interested in purchasing or selling the Entertainment Book, have your child return the book to school as soon as possible.

There will be a Family Night at the 99 Restaurant in late fall. The 99 Restaurant will donate 15% to our PTO on every dollar spent that evening. More information to follow!

ONGOING FUNDRAISERS.... WAYS YOU CAN HELP EVERY DAY!
There are several wonderfully simple ways for you to help us raise funds for our school. And the best part, you don’t have to do anything but shop at the following stores:
LICENSE PLATES
License plate frames with "Our Students Shine at Nelson Place" are available for only $3 each. They make great stocking stuffers! Send the name of the student, teacher's name and check payable to the Nelson Place PTO in an envelope marked "License Plate Frame" in to your child's teacher. These are in stock so turn around will be within just a few days.

TARGET
On your next visit to Target, if you do not already have their Target “REDCARD” or Target Visa, apply for one. Have them designate Nelson Place Elementary School as your school of choice. If you already have a Target Visa or REDCARD, make sure your card is currently linked to our school. Target will then donate 1% of all purchases to Nelson Place. It’s that simple! Our school will then receive a check from Target twice a year - in March and September. Currently only 31 Nelson Place families are signed up. So on your next visit….just stop at the Guest Service Desk and apply. Don’t forget to sign up grandparents, too! www.target.com
DIRECTV
Okay all you dads out there, here’s your chance to hook up with DirecTV and help Nelson Place at the same time. For every parent, family member, friend, neighbor and co-worker who activates DirecTV service for one year (or if you already have DirecTV and commit to another one year) they will donate $100 to our school. All you have to do is mention that Nelson Place is enrolled in the program (we will be getting our school code number shortly) and DirecTV will send the money directly to Nelson Place. In addition, anyone who commits to the one-year program will be entered to win a $100,000 college scholarship, and, while supplies last, you get your choice of a free gift…either an iPOD shuffle, portable DVD player, a $50 Best Buy gift card. www.directv4schools.com
GOODSEARCH TOOLBAR
This internet search engine that gives 1 cent to a charity of your choice each time you use it. It works the same as any other search engine you use such as google or msn but the PTO will get money when you are using it. Sounds simple enough! Use the instructions below to set up the toolbar on your system (you will have the opportunity to download to your regular home page as part of the process below). It automatically saves Nelson Place PTO as your preferred charity so you only have to do this once. Initially these funds will go to the playground account. Once our goal is reached, funds will go to our general fund. Please pass this information on to friends and family too!
1) Go to "Goodsearch. com".
2) Under "Who do you Goodsearch for?", enter "Nelson Place" where it says "enter your charity here"
3) Hit "Verify".
4) It should come back with "Nelson Place School PTO (Worcester, MA)".
5) If it does not, type in "Nelson Place School PTO (Worcester, MA)", and hit "Verify".
6) Now enter your search request and you are all set.
