I am also thankful for my dogs Casey and McGuiver. I am thankful for them because they are very playful. Lastly I am thankful for my house because it keeps me warm and dry.
FAVORITE SUBJECT MAKES THE GRADE
Congratulations to Nelson Place 4th grade student Andrew Tully for having his recent writing published in the Worcester Telegram's 'Happy Times' pages!
Andrew Tully, Grade 5
My favorite subject is math because it has a lot of fun stuff like geometry, fractions, graphing, math games, division, addition, multiplication and subtraction. Geometry is a fun subject because you use shapes, 3-D figures, and a compass. Fractions are shapes that help you divide shapes. Graphing is something that you use to organize data like favorite colors and foods. The math games like Top-It and Multiplication Baseball are really fun. Division is hard sometimes when you use huge numbers. Addition is very easy for some people and you use a lot of big numbers. Multiplication is fun because you can play multiplication baseball. The last math subject is subtraction and it is like adding but decreasing. That is why I like math.
COLUMBUS INSPIRES YOUNG WRITERS
These wonderful students recently had their work published in the Worcester Telegram's 'Happy Times' pages. Congratulations!!
Colin Shea, Grade 4
When Columbus was a little boy
He did not play with books or toys
He would watch the ships go out to sea
But they did not go out quickly
When Columbus was a grown man
He wanted to find new land
He sailed and sailed but thought he failed
But he found the new World
Avery Andros, Grade 5
Columbus Day is a national holiday in the United States. It is a national holiday in Canada, South America, and Central America. Exactly 300 years after Columbus made his discovery, people in New York decided to honor him with a holiday. The first person to declare Columbus Day an official holiday said it would be on October 12. Later someone said Columbus Day should be on the second Monday in October. Now, we celebrate Columbus Day with many activities. There is always a parade. This year there will be a bocce tournament and a family feast. Children in school study about Columbus and read books about him. Columbus Day was created so we could honor Christopher Columbus. We honor him because he found the New World.
